The Idylle collection brings to life a selection of archival gouaches by artist, fashion illustrator and designer Christian Bérard. True to Bérard's unmistakable brushstrokes and colour palette, as well as to the quality of the original rugs produced in the 1930's-1940's, the collection is as bold as Bérard's historical impact and as beautiful as his work in fashion, design and theatre.
Réminiscence de cette époque, la collection Idylle donne vie à une sélection de gouaches de Christian Bérard, personnage incontournable des salons de l'entre-deux guerres. Un esthète aux multiples talents, peintre, illustrateur, scénognaphe et décorateur, il était proche du décorateur français Jean-Michel Frank.
A major personality of the salon scene during the inter-war years, Bérard was an aesthete and man of many talents: a painter, a fashion illustrator, a scenographer, a decorator. As a close friend of interior designer Jean-Michel Frank, he started to create rug designs, including commissions for La Manufacture Cogolin.
Ce sont huit tapis en laine noués-main au Népal, édités dans la ligne Cogolin et les Mains du monde, qui témoignent du savoir-faire ancestral de la maison varoise et dont les motifs fleuris revisitent les codes de la Savonnerie grâce au coup de pinceau unique de Christian Bérard.
A testament to Cogolin's position in the canon of 20th-century rug design, the Idylle collection's eight designs are hand-knotted by artisans in Nepal and presented in the Cogolin et Mains du monde lines.
